Default Front Locker!

Has anyone else had an issue with their front locker? When I go to engauge it, the blinky light blinks on the dash...but that's it. I tried to drive it down a dirt road for a little bit (almost a mile) and it just blinks! My back one will lock right in though so no problems there. My only issue now is that I have put a 4" lift on my Jeep and I am worried that the dealer is going to give me the shaft. This Jeep has never been offroad as I use my 97 TJ for that and really never has been used in 4WD. I did have to drain about a quart of lube out of the front housing because the front seal started to leak on the right side...I have no idea how they get so much oil in there from the factory! Any ideas?

Thanks in advance.

Were you in 4wd low? I also understand that speed is limited to under 10 mph when locked. Perhaps if you exceeded this speed it disengaged automatically.

I was going below 10 mph and in 4-LO...but I have not tried turning the wheel back and forth, I'll give it a try. Thanks to both of you for the ideas, I'll post tomorrow if it worked.

The highlighted statement above has me worried. If it is true you drained a quart out, you are now probably under serviced.
I drained out 44 ounces (factory fill) from my front diff during the fluid change. That is about the published requirement for the front, even though it is half a quart past the fill hole. I filled it up with 44 ounces (15 ounces past the fill hole) because it is a high pinion, and i was afraid the pinion bearings would be starved for oil if I did not refill with the published amount. I have no leakage with 44 ounces in the front.

Thanks for the info...I will go ahead and change out the fluid and put back in the recomended amount. I just can't see why it had so much PAST the fill hole. I know the guys in my Jeep club that run high pinions just fill them up to where the oil starts to run out and the do not have any problems so that is what I was going by. Thanks for the reply, I will go ahead and do a service on it.
