Fuel door woes.
After waiting almost 2 weeks for it, I finally get it today. I had to work from 2AM to 10"30 today, so after lunch and a few beers I took a nap. It was on the front porch. I eagerly opened the box, only to find that the instructions were in hieroglyphics. No a single printed word until before the first and last step, where it cautions you not to overtorque the screws. The rest of it is pictographs. Steps 1-5 are easy to figure out. Step 6-11 only confuse me.
12 and 13 make sense. For those of yoy who have done this, help!

Where are you stuck? I agree that the instructions blew, but I was able to work my way through it. Remove the tail light, reach through and push the plastic clips so that you can pull the old part out. Watch out, the back clip is difficult to get to. Insert the new piece.... viola.
Thats just what I remember. I KNOW that there are detailed instructions on here. Just give it a search. I used them when installing my door.

Anyway when you go to remove the old plastic fuel "cup" that fits around the fuel tube just reach into the tailight opening and firmly grab the fuel tubing and just twist and work the plastic fuel cup off. I don't know about everyone else but it took a bit of force to remove it.
I could'nt get my hand, my 11 yo sons hand or my wifes little hand in far enough to push in the back clip .
So i carefuly spun the stock plastic cup part until it broke the little plastic pin that keeps it straight and from spinning. So the old part is pretty much broken after you take it off. You will see the little plastic pin on the back on the new one.
That was the only way to get that bastard off with out bending any body metal or f'ing up something else.
Also when you go to take off the rubber part to reuse it, alittle wd40 works great to get the thing to slide on and off easily.

Once again an example of my biggest pet peeve, lousy instructions. I too felt these were terrible and made the job much harder than it needed to be. It's really pretty simple and straight forward, but without knowing what to do and looking at bad drawings it's made much more tedious than it needs to be. If you have the hands of an 8yr old girl this is a simple install. If not, you'll probably scrape your knuckles, wrist, etc trying to push the retainer clip of the old part. Once that's done pry it out so it can't refasten itself. Now, if you can do it without damaging the sheet metal of the Jeep, simply pull the old peice out (is it just me or does our sheet metal seem to be rather soft?). If you can't get it to pop out, try carefully rotating it until you can reach the retainer clip on the opposite side to press it so it can then easily be removed from the Jeep.
Installation of the new part should be very easy, but once again, do take a bit of care so you don't dent the metal as you press it into place.
Edit: Damn it, that's what I get for not reading all the posts. See RedRocks response for an even better solution. lol
It might not help 07rube, as he's probably got it done, but maybe those tips will help someone else who does a search. Good luck.

An understatement. They should provide a match in the install kit, and the first instruction should be to take out the match and light the instructions on fire. They truly were a waste of paper. Fortunately, JK-Forum has the right stuff.
