Lightbulb fuel eco and snorkels

So I've been doing my research on snorkels and from what I've found half the people gain mpg because "of cooler intake temp" and others claim the loose 3-4 mpg.

what do you guys think?

i need one for this thaw out already have found some wetland areas that have 2-3 feet of water blocking my access roads

Design of the snorkel will affect the amount of air that can move thru it, the longer it is and the more bends in it will restrict the amount of air. Cooling the air will do little to improve the fuel economy. The JK computer adjusts the fuel air mixture and things like cold air intakes and throttle body spacers do almost nothing on todays motors.

The important thing is keeping the water out of the intake, if that is what you need, then a snorkle is for you. I get 15 mpg with my snorkel, 40" tires 4" lift, and 5000lbs of weight.

When I had one on my TJ I saw no difference as far as MPGs. I did remove it when I went to flat fenders and went back to the stock air box. Honestly I have tight trails and I would catch it all the time on trees. I wouldn't do it again.

You don't buy a snorkel because of mpg gained or lost

i need one because of this

"i need one for this thaw out already have found some wetland areas that have 2-3 feet of water blocking my access roads and I'm sure going to be deeper as spring gets closer"

i just don't want to get the rugged ridge one and lose 2/3 mpg like some people say they have.

As previously said you dont by one for MPG savings, they look cool, can stop hydrolock, keep filters clean longer but.... Snorkel added MPG to my land rovers, both of them, one fairly stock one not so stock. Air intake temps in the summer went down and mpg went up. Extreme example with air intake running in the 170 to 190 degree range from under the hood but it was a measurable increase in MPG post the snorkel. Now thats a land rover and in Las Vegas at 2500 feet in altitude in the summer, your results may vary. My snorkel for my JK will be here this week but i dont hope get it to improve MPG, but if it does i'll let you know.

One thing is cooler air is denser, more molecules per liter, this is why motors read air intake temps to adjust the mixture to account for this. I can assure you at sea level on a cold day im getting way better engine response than i do at 2500 feet with air temps in the tipple digits. Again im not saying thats related to MPG as i have never measured it, and the computers that control modern engines are very smart, but cooler air is why just about every turbo or supercharged motor has a intercooler in it. Always remember, snorkels look cool.

Got the aev gen2 snorkel and love it. Large opening and a decent path to the airbox. Not too restrictive at all in my opinion. Got it for multi day trips and to protect my "hoover" sucking supercharger.

Oh ya, no change in mpg for me. Jeep actually drove better but that could be the benefit of cooler air with my supercharger.
