gas tank covers
I put the Mopar black cover on; Style wise, it is made of metal, semi-flat black color with Jeep logo on it, non-locking. Seems well made and designed.
I did not want a locking unit....there simply is not enough strength in the locks and surrounding metal to really stop a thief...I would rather have my gas stolen than have a locking cover torn off and have to deal with the damage inflicted by a screwdriver/prying tool (I had a Honda a few years ago, and the standard "release from inside" gas cap cover....was pried up. What a pain and $ to repair). Plus I did not want another key to deal with.
The outer cover lid and the outer ring are one piece. Included is a new filler mounting surround art. For install you remove L tail light and remove the OEM filler spout surround. Install new surround, these just snap in and out...although big hands make it a challenge. The new surround comes with new screw mounting points that match the cover. New cover screws onto the new ring. You then remount the gas cap tether and your done.
Start to finish about 30 minutes.
The Jeep black gas filler cover and the black small plastic "dishes" that go under the door handles in the "finger tip dish" areas look great on my white 4 door JK.

Been awhile since I put my Mopar one on. I recall it being a pain in the rear to get the rubber seal around the filler neck--enough so that quite a few people were commenting on it here on the forum (this is a couple years back). But, I like it. It's most useful purpose is to keep mud away from the filler cap/neck. Somewhere is a thread or two where folks have replaced the chrome screws (some are decorative, some are real, BTW), with black screws. Here's pic's with mine ...

I've got a black surround with chrome center door.
Looks nice. Got it off from Quadratech made by a company with 3 letters like AFI Billet or something.
I did have to drill into the body but used a lot of silicone.
Sorry no pics.

Next year in our quest to finish out the lower 48 national parks (5 of 46 to go), I plan on dragging him out to Congaree National Park in South Carlina. And I figured we'd visit my youngest daughter and her family in Macon. I won't mention you live nearby ...

After hiking 3000 vertical feet from the valley floor ...

It's a pretty easy mod - it was the first one I did a couple of years back (can't count velcroing up the grab handles..
)
The MOPAR piece is a good one but comes in a bit more $$ than rugged ridge and some of the alternatives.
There's a great picture of it on this thread:

If you go this way then a diligent search of the archives will reveal some useful hints (don't over-torque the little screws and how to struggle with the rubber seal for the least time etc). I remember the thread about replacing the chrome screws with black items from ages ago that Mark refers to but I can't now find it (that's been on my low priority list of things to do to the Jeep for well over a year now...
just got sidetracked with more interesting mods lately)
