Default Gear Change on 2012+

I am getting the gears changed this week and my question is how far can I drive it before it goes in to limp mode? I have the BD, so can I go ahead and change it to 4:11 here and then drive it to my mechanic garage which is about 15 blocks away Or can the gears be changed and then he takes it on a test drive and I change it when i get it back?

How long does it take to go into limp mode?

I'm confused by your question. Changing your gears is NOT going to tell the CANBUS anything to force it to go into limp mode.

I'm assuming you're installing 4.10 gears? From 3.21s or 3.73s? All that will happen with an automatic is your shift points will be off, so the jeep will drive a little strange. Using your tuner will tell the computer the proper gear ratio and then your shift points will be corrected.

It's best to change the settings AFTER the install, not before, but if you must, I don't see a major problem with it. What's the rush? Just play it safe and use the tuner after.

When I had my gears done on my 12 I just preset my procal and told them what to do before they test drove it.

driving a 12 or newer automatic without adjusting the gear ratio will cause it to go into limp mode. The info you're giving is correct for a 07-11 not for a 12-15. The newer trans will go into limp mode.

Preset the turner and give it to the mechanics doing your gears. Also give them the quick reference card

With the manual transmission you don't have to program gear ratio.

Unless you want the speedo to be accurate and the traction and safety controls to be working correctly.

Newer autos can go into limp due to rpm, shift point and mph confusion in the system.

Newer manuals can give you warning lights if you do anything erratic like turn sharply, while reving the engine in a low gear going around a corner.

Big brother in the jeep is watching..

Doesn't require you to change the gear ratio. Just the tire size. I've been driving like this for about two years with no issues with traction control working
