Default gear oil level

I changed my front and rear diff oil today after putting about 500 miles on my 5.13 gears and the rear only held a little under 2 quarts and the front held 1 quart. Is the normal because of the added size in R&P. Im heading to the beach in the am and want to be sure its right.
Thanks.

Also 4wd high or low for driving on the beach??

What axles are you running? Do you have stock diff guards?

In my Rubicon diffs, Riddler covers, 5.38s I put 1.375q in the front, and 2.5q in the rear.

I don't drive in the sand, but in any case turn O/D off.

It sounds like you're fine. I did the same thing except I have an ARB rear cover. The rear 44 holds the whole amount because of how you put the fluid in the ARB, but the stock 30 cover only allowed 1 quart. According to the MANY posts I read since yesterday on the subject, that's normal and okay as long as the fluid oozes out of the fill hole. I may go ahead and pony up for the ARB front cover just so it's easier to fill. The stock cover is a beyotch...

Gear oil should be at level shown in Pic. You can either use a Zip tie to measure, or i just stick my pinky finger in there (riddler cover) and see if i can touch the oil
You also dont want to overfill because i heard it could cause damage to the axle seals- Someone correct me if im wrong, but i believe that happened to someone on here

As for sand, what i've read is 4LO so ESP is disabled and O/D off. If you plan on going faster than 20mph or so. Use 4H but disable ESP manually.
