Default gear package overhaul kit

hope this is the right forum, but is this everything i'd need to do a gear swap from 3.21's to 4.56's? do i need new carriers? not even sure what they are. just read somewhere about them.

Northridge 4X4 JK Non Rubicon 30/44 Gear Package and Master Overhaul Kits

have no clue what i'm doing or what i need, just wanted to see how much everything was gonna run. Just Jeeps in knoxville said it'd be about $500 per axle

thanks for the help

if you currently have the 3.21s then yes you do need the carrier for the Dana 30 with thrust washers.

Check your PM OP i sent you a link to somewhere thats a cheaper price and name brand. But check the link i sent you and also the deals with Northridge to see if one is cheaper than the other.

If you were considering adding traction - instead of buying another open carrier for the front d30, a truetrac or full case locker could be used instead.

This one is good to read through just so you know what's going on with a re-gear.

while you are at it, get rid of the D30, theres a reason the rubicons come with D44s front and rear. its cheapest to figure out if D44s are for you now and to upgrade it now rather then sinking tons of money into a D30 just to break it later.

also you may even want to go to D60s or D80s if you have extreme off roading with massive tires planned, but very few people get into that deep end of the pool.

yeah, i'm not that far into the wheeling yet. maybe whenever that elio car comes out to be my daily driver i'll hit some trails. but for now all i want is to be able to go up a steep hill without having to get out and push it myself. it feels like it has no power when starting out on some of these hills around here

ok, some more info would be usefull here, what year is your jeep, aka 3.8 or 3.6 penstar, auto or stick? what sort of hill are we talking about? like a hill with a road on it but still very steep, or actually hitting the 40 degree range of steep and a goat patch to climb it.

aka if you have a 3.8 with a manual and the hill is steep, you might not see much out of a gear change, because you might just need to shift into a lower gear to climb it, or the hill might be so steep that you should be in 4 lo in the first place, ect.

I will say this though, my stock 14 rubicon with 4:10 box handles regular hilly roads like a champ, it might down shift on the steep ones but doesnt lose power or struggle to maintain speed going up them.

i've got the 3.6l manual 295/70r18's whatever tire that comes out to be i'm not sure, but from dead start on a hill thats somewhat steep i have no power, sluggish as all get out. if i'm already cruising i dont have problems other than having to downshift quite frequently. when we rented a cabin in gatlinburg i could barely get up to it
