Default Gear Pattern Help

Hey all I'm right smack in the middle doing a regear and I need advice on how this latest pattern looks. I have two votes of "looks good" from Jeeper friends but my boyfriend thinks the pinion teeth are contacting too close to the top of the tooth rather than down in the root. I'm honestly not too sure. At this point it's like trying to read tea leaves. So someone please chime in with thoughts as soon as you can. I'm literally standing here in the garage trying to figure out what to do next. Thanks in advance.

Oh, they are US Gear 4.88s. Backlash is 0.0085. Manufacturer guidelines are somewhat fuzzy but seems to indicate 0.0080 to 0.0120. Dana Spicer says more like 0.0050 to 0.0080. Pinion shim is 0.0418.

I don't claim to be an expert by any means, but I DIY'ed my own gears. Pattern looks good to me and I would run it. Even/centered on the drive and coast side; along with proper backlash. I have read .005-008 for Dana gears, .006-.010 for Yukon gears. Check for noises on a test drive.

Man you are always so helpful. What would I do without your omniscience?

New photos. This is with pinion shim at 0.038 and backlash around 0.006. Can't really determine if this is better or worse. Open to any thoughts.

FWIIW, I'm the hamb-fisted, noodle-brain trying to do get the "perfect pattern." ...and I've never done this before.

I think the 0.038" shows the pinion too shallow due to the contact being high on the tooth (towards the face.) It looks like a pinion shim of 0.042" might be the best we can do with these gears

Still hoping someone out there can help out. This is where we are right now. Pinion is set so that can't be changed. Just working on getting backlash right. US Gear recommends 8-12 but we are having trouble getting that just right. We are at 6 or 7 depending on where you measure it.

Our friend says not enough backlash but we are really struggling to fine tune this.
