Default Gearing for 35's

I was just curious what kind of gearing those of you who are running 35's have and what do you recommend for a daily driver that will probably be hitting the trails a couple times a month.

Big determining factor: Which transmission do you have? Auto or manual?

If you have an auto, I'd recommend the 5.13s... I haven't put my tires on yet, but I have regeared to 5.13s and can already tell that the gears will suit the bigger tires well (I'm geared too short right now, but that'll even out when I put on the 35" tires).

I've read others say that 4.88s are enough for an auto w/ 35" tires, but a lot of it is a matter of preference. If you have a manual tranny, I would question if you even need to regear - try out the bigger tires first, and see what you think.

I am running 35" KM2s with 4.88s! I have the 6 speed manual and find this to be a good mix for a daily driver. By calculating the tire diameter, minus 10% and the gear change - 4.10 to 4.88 plus 20%, I determined an overall gear reduction increase of 10% from the factory Rubicon ratios. I am happy with how it drives, a little more bottom end and it runs 2500 rpm at 100km/hr or 62mph.

as mentioned, if you have an auto, i'd definitely go with 5.13's. i have a 6-speed and went with 5.13's anyway and absolutely loved the extra power i got out of it but, you could also get away with 4.88's.

5.13 is a mighty small ring on a D44. Has anyone broken a gear set yet ? I ran 5.38's in my D60's on my YJ with 40's.

Here is a gear calculator that a friend made that works awesome. You can do side to side comparisons and everything. It will let you know exactly what rpm and crawl ratios you will have before and after.

And yeah, the pinion in a 5.13 gear set for a D30/D44 is extremely tiny. I personally wont go lower than 4.56's in a D44 because of that.

If you have the D30, than 4.88 is as high as you can go.. Isn't it ?
