How many of you have swapped gears and regret the decision or think you picked the wrong ratio? Im presently getting 4.88's installed (295 Nittos and med duty OME on a Saraha) and I cant shake the thoughts of "4.56?" on the ratio choice? Ugh!

 

LOL!! trust me, 4.88 is what you want for what you have. if anything, i would have been kicking myself for not going 5.13

 

I have an "X" automatic. I am running 35" bfg's. I spoke directly w/a superior sales rep who asked a ton of questions and told me i should run the 5:13's. I am very happy that I did. No regrets.

 

I waffled between 4.88 and 5.13, but decided to take the conventional wisdom for those with automatics and 35s which is to go with the 5.13 gears. I don't regret it, they're perfect. I don't know if 4.88 would be terrible, but I would not have been happy with them.

What kind of gas mileage are you guys getting?

 

with 4.88's and 33's-35's and a 6-speed, you'll get pretty close to what you were getting stock. if you have an auto, you really should get something like a hypertech programmer to calibrate your speedo as it will also help your computer to know where the new shift points should be. this will help out and keep things close to stock. but, being that you're on bigger tires, you have to know that you will see some mpg loss.

 

I'm running 3.21's w/ 33's right now so my gas mileage really sucks. I guess when I regear it should get better right?

 

Are you checking your mileage manually or are you looking at the number on your dash? Dont believe the number on your dash. Otherwise drive a little more granny style and your mileage shouldnt be hurting too much.

I have a 6 speed with 3.21 and 33's and I get barely less mileage then I did stock. I went from 250 miles per tank of gas to 230 miles per tank of gas. (that is taking into account the actual miles, not the incorrect miles from tire size changes) You can figure the mileage for that if you want to.

 

Manual checking gives me around 15-16. I use to get 21-22 with the stock 255's. Will I get back to that when I regear?
