My understanding is that 5.38's dont hold up well if you plan on wheeling your Jeep.

That was the advice by many and with that being said we just ordered our 5.13's on Monday.

Brand doesn't matter since most of them are manufactured at the same plant and just repackaged. For details just run a search on a gear brand for threads discussing this.

check out the gear prices at Northridge4x4.

We are pulling the 5.13s out of my wife's automatic 4dr Rubi on 37s and installing 5.38s this week--and we do wheel.

For the OP, since he has a 6 speed, he should do 5.13s.
Well I asked a few on here..... including Moderators and several Vendors who do numerous gear installs. Recommendation by all of them was 5.13's.

My 5.13's for F&R D44's are coming from Northridge4x4 ($550 shipped to my door ) 37's are going on after the gears go in
I told David my set-up, the advice was that 5.38's are GREAT but you will eventually blow something in the axle if you off-road it hard. 5.13's have an increased chance over 4.56's, but the smaller spline of the 5.38's are the weak point.

I decided that I don't want to end up paying another $1200 for gears when I broke the 5.38's (I'm mean to the gas pedal)

The 5.13 Gears have a pretty good track Record. The 5.38's in a 44 combined with 40" tires in my opinion would not be a smart choice. That is why I recommended 5.13's

You werent alone in your recommendation...... quite a few recommended 5.13's even if we continued with our 37's.
