Default Which Gears 4.88 or 5.13

Ok right now I my set up is 15x8 soft eights with 33in Micky Thompson tires with a 2.5 TFBB and it is a six speed manuel. I am currently getting 11.6MPG and can not use 5th or 6th gear on the highway. I want to move up to 35in tires but my current tires are brand new so it will be awhile. I have the money to get gears right now. But I do not know which ones. Can you guys with 4.88 and 5.13 with similar setup to me let me know gas milage and performance. Thanks

I don't have a 6 spd, but i do have an auto and have 4.88s with 35's and i am soon going to 5.13s when my new axle comes in from NORTHRIDGE. I would get 5.38s, but got a smoking deal on rear gears as in free. Don't fear the gear go 5.13s. I get about 15-16 MPG with my current 4.88s. A buddy of mine has 5.13 and 37s and gets 16-17 MPG. 5.13 with a 6spd and 33s is going to run a little higher rpms on going 70, but once you go 35s you will be happy you did.

You know what if I had all day long to be on here I might have seen something. But you never get exactly what you need so what is wrong with asking it. If you dont like the thread butt out and mind your own buisness.

To every one else who helped me thank you very much

Do you know if I would also need a new carrier for the gears. Or do I just need to order the gears.

He'll be able to tell you for sure in two seconds and give you firm prices too.
He's got some great ring and pinion gears and prices.
Answering your original post in more detail, the gas mileage is gonna be tough any way you slice it with bigger/heavier tires and a brick shaped rig.
Performance wise, I'd generally say you're gonna enjoy steeper (higher numbered) gear ratios over more modest gearing.
OK thank you. I have a guy that will do the install for $550 is that a good deal.

I have 4.88's, 35's and 6 speed. At 70 I'm turning about 2900-3000 RPM.

Unless you have a D44 in the front, I wouldn't go higher than 4.88's. Also, you'll need new carriers if you're currently running smaller than a 4.10.

What is your MPG. My Jeep is mostly a week end driver. I am a police officer so I have my crusier to dirve every day. I do not wheel very ofter as there are not many places for me to do it.
