Gears 4.88-5.13 difference
Im having 5.13 gears put in my jeep and i want to know what or how i can tell the difference if 4.88's were installed and not the 5.13's that are suppose to go in on a 2 door wrangler automatic with 35" tires, how will i tell if the correct gears were installed ?
Chock the right rear tire, fore and aft.
Put the transmission in neutral.
Emergency brake off.
Jack the left rear tire off the ground.
Put a jack stand under the frame, just in case the jack fails (had to add this).
Put an index mark on the aft end of the drive shaft, visible from the left rear wheel.
Put an index mark on the left rear tire at the 6 o'clock position.
Rotate the left rear tire 2 complete revolutions while counting how many times the index mark on the drive shaft passes its original position.
That number will be your axle ratio.
Remove jackstand and lower jack.
Put transmission in gear and/or apply emergency brake.
Remove chocks.
If the driveshaft turned slightly more than 5 turns, they must be 5.13's
What the guy above me said X1000000000000
But to add//// I think you meant the 4:10's the auto's with towing....none come with 4:88's that I know of................
being that you have an automatic, you really should have your computer recalibrated/speedo after regearing and getting new tires. this will change the way it drives and i think you will be able to feel the difference a lot more.
Actually i was saying that instead of my 5.13's getting installed the person doing them could put 4.88's in and keep the 5.13's for themself since they are in need of some and cant get them right now,so the person says,i really hope and do not think he would do it but theres been a few other issues going on with my jeep and new parts ,like new wheels being scratched up and them saying they came that way,its along story and im not going to get into blaming or blurting out names and business without facts.but the gears have been a major issue and im losing faith in this whole thing,HOPEFULLY everything comes back to me working, and driving riGht,i just need my daily driver back.
