Just got off the phone with a local shop that does regearing, and they are telling me I need to go to 4:88's to move the 35"s I want to put on my JK. I thought 4:10's would be enough. Any opinions...

 

if you are having to re-gear, go with the 4.88 or 5.13 (I think 4.88 is nice)
4.11 will do, if you already have them, but most report better results with the lower gears

 

I'm running 5:13's with 37's. New axles will have 5.38's.

 

honestly, i am still running 3.73's with my very tall 35" mt/r's and find that my performance has diminished far less than i would have thought. honestly, i would just install your 35's and drive on them for a while before pulling the trigger on gears.

 

With a 6 speed and 35s I'd do 4.56s or 4.88s. 4.56s will put you back to nearly the same ratio as a stock rubicon (4.10s on 32" tires). 4.88s will be a bit shorter

5.13s and 5.38s are going to be awfully short on a 6 speed with 35s in my opinion. You'll be turning considerably more than 3,000 RPM at 75 MPH. 1st gear will probably be useless on the street.

 

The shop you talked to needs your money which is why they told you that you need to re-gear.

I'm running 35's on 3.73's and while it's annoying sometimes there's no need to replace them.

 

I ran 35's with 4.10 gears for two years. You definitely don't need to re-gear. I went to 4.88 recently and while it's helpful on hilly roads to not need to downshift as much, I would have certainly been fine with the 4.10's.

 

then again... I ran 35s on 4.10s for a week and thought it sucked a fat one. I have an auto though.

 

I personally would not run 35's on 3.73 gears.

I would go with 4.88 or 4.56 for 35" tires.

 

you may not need it, but I love the performance of 5.13 gears and 35's with my 6 speed
