Default gears shmears....

Maybe its just me but after going to 35's from stock, I havent noticed a dramatic decrease in power. Certainly not enough to make we want to go out and spend money on regearing. I lost a couple if MPG's but was expecting that. Anyone else feel the same way? Ive got a sahara so perhaps thats a big help. To me she drives great!

I'd have to agree for street driving...on trails I can notice more but not enough to run out there and regear.

you live on mostly flat no hills Long Island, drive up to NY State and hit the mountains see what you think then lol.....if you have 410's its probably not to bad but on hills it will be. Also if you go wheeling with anyone who has 5:13's take theirs for a ride, you'll see the difference.

3.8, auto, 3.73's and stock 32" tires is bad enough in my book. No possible way would I be happy on 35's without a regear. But hey, to each his own and all that. Glad you're happy with your lack of power.

I have 3.73's, 6-spd and 35's, I am usually happy with performance except for the time when I drove thru New Mexico and was hit with all kinds of wind, couldn't get the Jeep (fully loaded with crap) over 65mph. I will try the Superchip and hopefully that will be enough with the 6-speed and bring my mileage up on the 87 octane setting.

If I had an automatic I would have driven it off the dealers lot to the shop for gears. With the 6 speed and 35s I'm not that pressed for gears and I actually got to use first gear after the tire upgrade with 3.73s.

6sp w/ 3.73s and 35s. Jeep's are underpowered for my tastes from the factory. With that being said, I am actually surprised how well it handles with 35s. After reading how many people have spent multiple thousands of dollars to change their gear ratios, I was honestly expecting something much worse. I can see the issue being amplified with an auto and hills. Gearing won't satisfy my desire for enormous amounts of low end torque, so I am going to hold off and wait for some kind of turbo diesel conversion kit.

i drive across the state of colorado almost every weekend on I-70 with 4.10's,35" tires and an automatic. I go up and over vail pass and eisenhower up to 11k feet and i dont have many problems. i can take the pass at 70 mph no problem. It hunts a little and its not perfect but gearing is low on the list.

I live in NY and I still don't mind it...its a slow vehicle to start...if it got any slower I didn't notice. Maybe my mbrp exhaust made up for the tires...
