Default General Wheel Question

OK - i really should know the answer to this but I don't.

I'm thinking of getting Crager 345 Series Silver D Window wheels. My choices are 17x8, or 17x9. Initially, I'm going to transfer my Goodyear Wrangler 34" MTRs to these wheels, but next time I need rubber i'm going for 35".

Looking at the websites for Toyo and BFGoodrich, it seems that they recommend at least 8.5" rims for a 35x12.5x17 tire, so that would be the 17x9.

The question is will these wheels fit. I already have 1.5" spacers on my stock Rubicon wheels, and the website for Cragar says that the D Window has a 5" Rear Spacer.

What measurement do I need to take off my vehicle to determine if these wheels will fit withou re-using my spacers. Basically, what measurement has to be taken to find out if any given wheel will fit.

Thanks all!!

I guess you mean 5" backspacing? If so, I thing that 9" wheel might be cutting it close. Maybe somebody else that has the combo or has a little more knowledge can chime in, but I think generally, you want like 4 or 4.5" backspacing. At least that's what I've read.

so backspacing is the measurement from the inside edge of the wheel to the (dont know the term, where the wheel contacts the part on the axle with the lug studs), right?

and you are guessing that maybe a wide wheel, in this case 9", might come too close to the wheel well.

then how are most guys running 35x12.5x17? With using the 1.5" spacers i already have??

Alot of the aftermarket rims available the JK have 4.75" - 4.5" BS.
I think he factory BS is 6.25", so if you get wheel w/ 5" BS
it would be like running a 1.25" spacer.... run a 12.5" tire...
and you'll prob get a lil rubbin'.

Why not reconcider you wheel selection and find one w/ a 4.75" or 4.5" BS?
Then, problem solved.
