Default Gibson's Performance Headers

With all the hype I saw on the RIPP thread on headers I was surprised to find Gibson had been making a performance header for the JK for a while now. I noticed them in an old quadratec catalogue and they are currently online as well at quadratec and gibsons sites.

Since headers would be a good way to get some extra HP in our mini van motor I was surprised I have never read one thread about someone putting something like this on.

Anyone out there tried these headers??????

Well i have the gibson exhaust and i have the banks CAI and after all that still not to much of a difference. Everything i have read has indicated that the headers cause melting problems and are a big hassle. The most power your going to get is with a flashpaq i think.

I installed RIPP's headers and I bought the chip before that. I've been running the tuner and headers with the engine light on (I know this is wrong). They dont work together. I still need to run the headers alone (without tuner) to see the difference between them and the stock manifold. It will be hard to tell though. Running the tuner first, then going to headers; Im sure it will "Feel" less. We'll see though...

Speaking specificaly to the Gibson headers I can tell you they make no difference. Helped put them on a friends JK (07 Rubicon 2dr 6speed) and we were very disapointed. He didnt have the melting problems (plug wires and battery tray) that others have had, but there was just no noticable or percieved difference. About the only good thing is they have held up fine and if you can get them for a good price they are a competent replacment for the stock manifolds that tend to crack.

I have them . I put them on at 3000 miles and i have 17000 miles now on a 08 4 door jk. I also put on the Gibson split exhaust and volant cold air intake. The jk has a 4.5 lift and 315x70x17 it would not get out of its own way. When i did this the pickup got a 100 percent better and can run 70 mph with no problem now. I had no problem with the headers. The sound got louder with this set up. Hope this helps.

I would agree 100%. I have seen on the forum, most people aren't happy with the differences the headers have made.

I also think that the OP answered his own question.

Headers, in my opinion, is like throwing cash out the window.

That's the reason why there is no talk about headers, because they don't give you any more performance.

But, if I had the money, I would put them on, and I would also have a Hemi.

Maybe, it's just me, but my Jeep never had a problem going 70 MPH. I would be a little skeptical to say that the jeep performance was 100% better at pick-up on the addition of headers, alone. With 35's and a 3" suspension lift, without any performance mods, my Jeep has never had a problem to reach 70 MPH.

Just my opinion though.
