Likewise, there is a guy in Tucson that does them for 275 an axle..

Really? Who? Do you have personal experience with him? The savings might justify driving out there to visit my daughter and her family (she's assigned at Davis-Monthan).

Gear types.

I went with Superior gears and axle shafts. I haven't had any problems. Went with 35's & 4:88 for my 6 speed.

Come to PHX, do some 4 wheeling, then have your gears replaced....Yukon 4.88 gears, install kits, labor, fluid, $1075, taxes included....Less than a day for install.
