Default Going to program w/Hypertech today - any new thoughts or experiences?

Max Energy (HYP52001) delivered today... will measure tires at my nominal pressure and input per instructions and info from Project JK and this forum, but curious if anyone has experimented with ratios different than what they have... For example, I have 4:10 Rubicon, Unlimited/auto - but what would happen if I input lower or higher than 4:10 ratio? I'm not techy enough to figure it out... just goofy enough to wonder.

Would definitely mess up the accuracy of your speedo and might impact ESP.

As a side note, make sure you install the update disk on a pc and connect it to the internet to make sure you have the most recent update. Do this before you do any changes on your jeep as the update won't work unless your jeep is still at stock settings.

Thanks HOMEGLASS - good reminder... I'm not sure I would have thought to do that... maybe, just maybe if the instructions mention to do so

It would just mess up your transmision shift points, since that is the main thing that is adjusted when you make this alteration in the computer. Your speedo should still be correct since this is calibrated from the tone rings on the axles.

So then, is there a "messed up" shift points combo that would be a better/fun than the design?... what would the shift point pattern be if you said 5:13 but really have 4:10 gears? anything fun, or just a bolix of trouble like ESP freak or whatever.... told you I was goofy

I am not sure what would happen with the ESP, and stuff, but if you don't like it, it is a quick reprogram to correct.

I have had my Hypertech since Feb. this year. I just ran another update and it works even better now. Its all about the software.

Software Update Version 1.1.7.3

Firmware Version 17.16.8.30

I recommend updating your Hypertech monthly. To make sure you can take advantage of any new improvements.

So JulietKilo......do you really like the overall results after installing the Hypertech. Did you do alot with it? Is it really worth the big $$$...???

AK4Dave: I did get noticable results, but can't say yet it's worth the $$$ (I charged it, and prob would not have written the check) ... I often manually shift my auto to have performance the way it is most enjoyable and was hoping the shiftpoints/TC interference would change the "leave it in D" driveability dramatically... it does somewhat, but slushbox automatic annoyance still there (I don't like shifting with the throttle) if not as bad (thus my original question about programming a fake ratio).
Big difference (+3 to 4mpg) in gas mileage REPORTED but not sure how that number is developed (haven't crunched my own # yet), so may be a function of tire size inputs feeding the computer (I measured 33.75 and I input 34 because I run them comfy and may air up a little, later)... not dissapointed, but full value still TBD

Good point Littlejon - although it does take a while I had to program twice first time anyway because I had key turned to ACC not ON-but-not-started first time and got Wormhole error!
Freaked me out, called Hypertech but they're "9-5" and I was programming after their tech support hours.. got bold (aka desparate) and figured it out on my own... only experimentation was to plug into JK socket first then when comfy, keyed up and then plugged into Hypert programmer and during programing, told it 'changed ratio' but input my real Rubi 4:10:1

Thanks for the tip JulietKilo.. however, installed HT SW on a "work" laptop and firewall wouldn't let me get updates [home PC is ancient.. and on dial-up and I spend too much on JEEPs to get new set up].. I will install on old PC if I can and try updates again... although it didn't say "no code" or whatever when I programmed correctly

It was alot of money for the few ponies it produced using regular fuel; however, I can contiually update my computer as I get bigger tires and or gear change.

Something they dont tell you is that it kills that hesitation that you see in the standard transmission.

My MPG stayed the same it did not get worse or better.

Overall I like it for the flexibility to program my computer when I want but 400 is really steep for the few things it actually does.
