Default Is this a good deal?

Got an email last night with this attached. I am not wanting a "warn is better" thread, just whether this is a good deal or not!

Thanks

This product exploded

The store employee {manager} sold me this product for a particular purpose, i paid[$] in a down economy thats alot. The product installed the way HE recomended exploded after 20 min of use and he would not accept it back the next day. I have already told over 40 people to never shop at this location and they are spreading the word. I will continue to spread the news that these guys are crooks, and I am in the process of contacting the better buisness bureau. Please do not shop here, they are pompus liars, and they take advantage of anyone with little knowledge and a buck in their hand

So after reading that, I'm going to say its shit
I read that, but honestly someone with little to no experience using a product and breaking it doesn't hold up much in my book! I was looking for someone with firsthand experience!

For a little bit more, you could get the Smitty XRC8 w/ synthetic. I think it's a better product. There's a reason they dropped the price on this model so low. I'm always wary when presented with a drastically reduced "sale" price. See if they offer a lifetime warranty. Mine was only $45 and it covers everything... if the line breaks, they'll ship me a new line... motor fries, i get a new motor. Good luck.

It's a Mile Marker PEC8 electric winch.

which one? the link just displays a number of milemarker winches. I had a milemarker winch before my smittybuilt and it was a decent winch. The smittybuilts and the low end milemarkers are pretty much identical. my smitty's wiring on the inside actually says milemarker on it. the new mosfet milemarkers with the variable speed is a pretty slick set up. Once my smitty has seen it's last day I think thats what I'm gonna replace it with. I think in the winch world Milemarker is a close second behind Warn but only with their higher end units. And if it maters they are built in China.

Search around a bit more online, there are lots of reviews out there. The majority are complaining about how slow it is. And seems like at least half complain about issues with the crappy controller. Assuming you get a good controller, and assuming you can deal with the slow speed, the price is right...

If you are going to be wheeling you probably should get a well trusted winch. I am eventually going to go with a Warn of Schmittybuilt. Better off to save a couple more months and get a product with a good reputation.
