Default Goodyear Duratrac Differences: 16" vs 17"....

Hey all,
I am currently running 17" Procomp rims with 33" Procomp extreme MT's. When I purchased this package I really didn't know much and didn't even know the tires were E-rated (or even what that meant!!). Well, I am now already going bigger, to 35's!!
I was all ready to pull the trigger today on 315/70/R17's, but come to find out they are on backorder for at least 6 weeks. So I started looking more into it, and found that the 16" Duratracs 315/75/R16's are actually E rated.
If this is the case, Maybe this would add a little security for side wall punctures, as this seems to be mentioned as a concern quite a bit with the Duratracs and the 2 ply sidewall.

1st question:
Does E rated mean that that sidewall is 3 ply vs 2? I have noticed some people mention they have a 3 ply sidewall and was wondering if that is the case with all E rated tires. (couldn't find this on Goodyears website).

2nd question:
Really happy with my ride now, so does going with a 16" rim change anything? Im sure this is posted somewhere but figured I would ask since I was already posting!!

Thanks in advance!!

I have similar questions regarding the duratracs. What is the difference and best choice between the E rated 315/75/16's and the D rated 315/70/17's? I was thinking the D rated may not be as stiff a ride as the E rated? Pretty sure all the duratracs are 2 ply and the load range doesn't designate number of plys.

I was also wondering what the 315/70/17's were measuring out to when installed and under load...I think the Goodyear spec measurement is 34.4" I am hoping they measure right around 34" and not too much into the 33" zone.

The letter designations are tread plies not sidewall. I think d's are 6 e's are 8 & g's are 10 ply heavy (1 ton ) tires.

I have a friend with the 17's and they measure at approximately34.4" at about 30lbs. The spare was a little more, 34.6". They are 2 ply tires but I have seen people post about 3 ply Duratracs... That is what I am trying to understand!
