Goodyear MT/R Experience
Hi,
At risk of starting another tire thread, I'd like to ask the opinion of anyone running Goodyear MT/Rs. I know there are references to the MT/Rs; but, real dialogue is kind of intermitent.
I am lifting an 08 JK Rubicon with the Northridge EMU LT kit. I have been going back and forth on the timing for new tires. Maybe I should do it now....
In which case, I am really leaning toward 35" BFG KM2s. But, I deal with a great Goodyear store here in Indy, and all things being relatively equal, I'd like to consider the MT/Rs. I'd love to hear from those who have run the MT/Rs, or who have any other knowledge of their performance. (I will be mixing it up between highway, city, and trail/rock.)
I'm also curious about the the MT/Rs with Kevlar. I read a press release a few days ago about this tire. Any idea when it will be on the street?
And one last question.... I was leaning toward new wheels; but, with the cost of the tires, maybe I should wait. The stock wheels aren't too bad, so mounting the MT/Rs or the KM2s on the stock rims shouldn't be a problem, should it? I realize that I will need spacers. (I would prefer to stay away from spacers because of the additional stress load; but, maybe I am thinking too much.) Anyone regret not going ahead with new wheels after going the spacer route?
Thanks for any advice.
Jeff

I have the 34" MTR's mounted to the stock 17" rubicon rims. I'm very pleased with them. There's 33000 miles on them, and plenty of tread left. Not too loud, but enough hum with 1/2 doors to let you know your running a mud tire.
I haven't done any hard core wheeling yet, so I don't have any input in that area.
I went with these mainly because of the size. 34" was a perfect fit in my opinion. Absolutely no rubbing with spidertrax 1" spacers.

I ran them on my 2000 F-150... They looked good, and wheeled good. I thought they were a bit soft for my mostly on road driving as it was my DD... Soft meaning they did not last long in my application.
I'm running the Goodyear MT/R's Happy with them a good overall tire. They performed really well on Moab slickrock. You do have to rotate the tires a lot, but I would buy them again.
Had a buddy run them on his solid axle yota with dual lockers and he had some issues in the snow. Not sure if it was driver error or the tire but snow wasn't where his truck showed its best.

I put 40,000 miles on the set on my 2005 Rubicon. They were average in my opinion. They didn't clean themselves out as well as I would like and the rotation schedule needs to be every 3000 miles.
I really like the MT/Rs I too chose them partly because they were load range 'C', and have heard very good things about them. I have had them on for 5K mostly road miles but several mild wheeling trips including ice and snow, where the tires performed very well. I like that the tread pattern is non-directional too, which seems to be less and less common these days. The price was not bad compared to other offerings in this size.
