Default Got my Treadwright Wardens in yesterday. Balancing issue...

This is a question for those that run treadwrights. I just got my wardens (265/75/16s) in yesterday and got them mounted on my Cragar Soft 8s and they didn't balance worth a flip. Had to get like 10 ounces per tire to get them to balance and then when I drove them this morning, I have a bad steering wheel shake from 40-60 mph. I was reading about the Treadwrights and it says they are balanced from the factory and that the person that installs them needs to use a "static balance machine" and I talked with my tire guy and that is what he used. Anyway, I sent an email to Treadwright this morning to see what they thought and could do about it. I am not real happy with them right now. Has anyone else using treadwrights had this problem??? I did a ton of searching about these tires before I bought them and could not find a bad review. Sounds like I have good luck huh.

I mean when you have to have this much weight per tire, something is bad off!! How come I have to get the 4 treadwright tires that stink when I couldn't find a bad review on them in over a week of searching.

Tire 1

Tire 2

Tire 3

Tire 4

If I were you I'd try to get a dynamic balance done. See what happens.

I thought about that too! I'm going to wait and see what treadwright says to my email first just in case though.

Please keep us posted on what happens. I've been researching them for awhile now and this is rare it seems. I seem to remember, can't find, but someone saying that they had one that wouldn't balance and treadwright sent them a new one, but I can't recall the details for sure. FWIW, when I had BFG AT's on my Jeep WJ, I had balancing issues with one of them, finally had to replace the tire.

Umm Holly Crap. I don't think that is a tire issue if all 4 are that far off. Most of my 285/70/17 guard dogs were around 3-6 oz and for how heavy the tire weighs that is very ok by me. Did the not mount any to the outside of the wheel or use sticky weights to get them on the inside of the rim and closer to the face? It looks like he only stuck them to the one lip and that might be part of your problem. I have heard of one or two in a set not balancing correctly and treadwright took care of the person but not all of them.

Yea I used to mount and balance tires. Some one is doing something wrong with the weight placement. Especially bc that is not a huge tire

Yeah I asked him if he could put them on the inside just because I didn't want the weights to look bad on the outside... But I figured he would tell me if he couldn't or if it wasn't a good idea. :(

He should be using sticky weights right behind the face of the wheel and not placing them all on the inside lip like he did. The way he has them all lined up spreads the weight from the point that needs to be balanced and just creates more issues. If anything you could go with dyna beads if you dont want any weights, but stick on weights would work fine unless you have 15's and are close to the caliper.

I have already received an email from Joel at treadwright. Sounds like they really do want to make sure I'm happy. He agrees with you all that they were not balanced correctly.

Here is his email...

I'm sorry to hear you have had a problem. Honestly, in looking at the picture and from what you have described it sounds to me like they we not balanced according to our recommendation. If done properly in the "static" setting (not "dynamic" or "road force") they should each take less then 5 or 6 oz and that weight should be split from inside to outside of the wheel in the same position only (i.e. the 12:00 position on both sides of the wheel). They must be balanced in this manner for the balancing warranty to apply. If possible, can you send me a copy of the invoice for installation so I can verify they were balanced in this way. I have installed these tires for over 6 years and in all that time only had about 3 tires that didn't balance as they should have when balanced in the "static" setting.

I do want you to be satisfied with your purchase and believe that if the tires are balanced in this fashion you will be. Please call me if you would like to discuss this further over the phone.

So, I'll be taking them to another shop to get them balanced. Don't expect an update for a while though. I am having ACL replacement surgery on my knee in the morning at 9:45 so I probably won't be able to drive it to a shop for a week or maybe 2. ha Sorry to get you all caught up in this only to turn around and not give an update for a while. Maybe I can get my wife to take it to a shop. Hmmmm ha
