Gray Yellow wire - instruments lights
I removed the instrument panel in hopes of finding the wire that controls the instruments lights intensity - I understand it is the gray/white wire. I found one that is off to the left of the instrument cluster but does not actually go to the the instrument panel via the wire bundles that plug into the back of the panel. I tapped into it but the voltage is a constant 5.8 vdc. Does not change voltage level as I vary the instrument light dimmer control.
I can only assume I have not chosen wisely.
Which wire is it?
I am putting in an instrument pod in the A-piller and wanted to get a wire as close as possible.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

It is CAN BUS controlled. You're not going to find a "wire" for it. You might be able to tap a circuit board LED to get the variable voltage you're looking for, but that's probably risky for the non electrical knowledge type. Haha. You could get a PAC Chrysler radio harness and piggy back install it to just use the dimmer output. But that is a one hundred and something dollar way to do it. Had bad do you want to have a dimming light?

I guess I was looking for the wrong colored wire. I think it should be ORANGE-GRAY. I will try what you suggest at the center console area. Thanks, Jim
