That's a good question and one that I unfortunately cannot answer.

Maybe here's a clue from Mike's entry in the AutoBlog Green:

"What's going on with the Jeep Wrangler diesel concept vehicle on display in the Mopar booth at the SEMA Show? An early news release said it sports a 4.2-liter V6 diesel engine. The wheelstand sign says 4.2-liter diesel engine. We've heard Cummins say they're building a 4.2-liter diesel for light-duty DaimlerChyrsler applications. But peeking under the hood I find a 3.0-liter common-rail diesel engine. None of the Mopar personnel on duty would talk, just saying that it's a concept vehicle and can't explain the sign. We know that Jeep will offer a 3.0-liter CRD, which is made by Mercedes-Benz, in the 2007 Jeep Grand Cherokee. So it appears that someone at Jeep is having too much fun teasing us ...."

Here's a link to an article about the 400 pound-feet torque Merecedes Bluetec diesel stump-puller:

Default I was told there was a borred out 3.0 to 4.2 Benz diesels in there

I talked to a salesman at scottsdale airpark jeep.
he was the same guy that took the CDR JEEP pictures outside of vegas last year.
He went to sema and got to look under the hood and talk to the builder.

He said there was a mercedes benz 3.0 turbo diesel but it was bored out to 4.2.

he also said the oil pan was quite low.

I am convinced there will be no new engines till 1010.

I plan to wait in my TJ till some kind of Mercedes engine in offered.
I can wait till 2010... i only have 150,000K on my current engin.
