I bought the teraflex 2.5" coil lift an do some pretty moderate offroading and I have never needed a winch in the 2 years Ive owned my jeep. I had more close calls stock than I have with a lift, and I wheel way harder now than stock. My advice, get the lift, especially if you dont go out a lot, because you'll enjoy the lift every single day you drive, whereas liek you said, in your case, may not get to use a winch but more than once or twice a year

Rubicon 3.5" standard lift with shocks $800, Smittybilt 8000 winch $300. The ruby lift can be built up from the standard when you have more $$$.. You can get a winch plate for the stock front bumper I believe. The articulation with the discos unattached is amazing. Best lift I've ever had and on a smaller budget. My mechanic swears by RE so i listened. Has paid off well.. Lift for sure first... hijack is a winch as well. Remember that. Good luck on your mods

you make a pretty valid point. i would defs get the lift and hand winch now. you can always purchase an electric winch later on in life if you see that you start to off road more often and find it more convenient to have a winch that operates on its own.

to tell you the truth i bought myself a warn m8000 but i don't go off roading often. i've had it for a few months now and have used it three times, once to winch a buddy's 1990's chevy pickup out of a swamp, 2nd to pull my dad's car (stalled) up the drive way, and the third time was to removed the pool cover.

i only bought it cuz i knew eventually i would be increasing my offroading (just recently befriended two cj-7 owners) and would rather have a machine pull me out then a cranking mechanism (personal preference).

good luck amigo!!!!

Let me hear your thoughts!
From your original post, it sounds like a good "come-along" will work just fine for what you want to do...good on you keepin' it old school!

Maybe have some oxen follow behind you just in case you want to party like its 1599?
