Chicago electric could be considered a budget winch also...they even stated in the article that it was for the weekend warrior on a limited budget

A one day test is hardly definitive...but, alot comes down to reliability and durability.

Sure, the Chicago Electric survived, barely, but, it made it......had 10 of each brand been included, I'm sure there would have been some other DNF's, and some that DNF'd surviving, etc.

I HAVE a Warn 9.5xp, and it IS a freekin war horse....and it takes a lickin and keeps on ticken, etc.

The other winches in the test that failed...well, they failed. It was a one sample test, and they failed, shit happens.

The SPECS on the T-Max winch are great......but, if it doesn't actually WORK, who cares?

The people I know who HAVE T-Max winches, have NOT had a problem, but, they mostly got them very recently.

I paid about $600 for the Warn 9.5xp...I got it when they first came out, before they were even listed on the web-sites, etc.

It freekin rocks..........VERY fast under load, doesn't over heat, and can haul asses all day, get dunked in bog water all day, and keep going. It has a LIFETIME Warranty.....the others have 90 DAYS to a year warranty.

So - I off road a lot, I use the winch alot, I have stupid freinds who call me at 3 am on a sunday to save their ass from somewhere, etc....Its worth it to me to have that peice of mind and confidence in my equipment.

For people who can take 20 minutes to wait for their cheap winch to drag them 100' feet of of a bog, etc....god bless, time is money...spend/save all you want.

A cheap winch used once in a while to save your ass is a better investment that having NO winch because you can't afford a better one.
