Default Has anyone ever heard of a "Star Case"?

About three weeks ago I began having trouble with my rear lockers, basically I couldn't get them to unlock no matter what I did. Make a long story short, after being in the dealer shop for nearly three weeks, they still didn't know what the actual problem within the diff was. They stated they sent all the data to the engineers at Chrysler, who in turn couldn't find the issue, which prompted them to open a Star Case.

They basically gutted the rear diff, and with all that no component appeared to be malfunctioning, other than the obvious fact that they couldn't get the electromagnet to disengage. All the electrical components checked out normal. As part of this Star Case, they shipped the entire diff to the engineers, who I guess are going to look into it.

Anyone out there have this kind of a problem before or have been involved in a Star Case?

Ohh, as part of my warranty coverage, they put me into a Jeep Liberty while they were working on my JK......one recommendation, don't buy one.

I've seen some other threads mention it. From what I can tell, when the crack team of techs at the dealership fail a few times on the same problem, it can get sent to the engineers at Chrysler/Jeep/Fiat/whoever. Seems to be referred to as a STAR case once it reaches that level.

Thanks for the reply. It was a very long three weeks without my JK. Now on a better point, I have been very skeptical of the dealership and their mechanics due to previous incidents, but I gotta give credit where credit is due. They did call to give me updates, and they were truthful as far as I could tell. I would rather them just come out and say " We don't know what's going on with it" versus just bullshitting their way through it. Hopefully they will get back to me once the engineers figure the whole thing out.

Not to thread jack but i also just had a case opened on a door leak. I will find out how this goes tomorrow.

I was also looking for some more info on what STAR case entails and has anyone had any luck with them.
