Default Hawse fairlead OK with standard cable?

Sorry for this stupid question but I prefer the looks of a hawse fairlead to the standard roller fairlead. Will I do any damage to my standard winch cable switching the two? I do plan on switching to synthetic winch line in the future but not right away. Thanks!

A lot of winches come standard with a hawse fairlead. You won't cause any damage.

What IGOFSHN said but if you use your winch with it's steel cable, you will need to install a new fairlead when you switch over to synth rope. The abrasions caused by the steel cable can damage/cut up synth. Also, you should make a point to get an aluminum or plastic hawse when you go synth.
