Default Help!!!

I recently had a 4" superlift installed a couple of months ago. Tonight I was washing my jeep and noticed that my front right shock was loose. When I examined it further I noticed that the bolt and gromet was missing and it was hanging freely Is it ok to drive back to the shop a couple of miles
The good news is it seems like that shock is not supporting the weight of the vehicle. I found the OEM bolt and placed it through to keep the shock mobile..

Your right the shock is not weight bearing. If you are only driving it a few miles and you have smooth roads and don't drive fast then you will be fine. You dont want that shock to bounce around in its mount, otherwise you could bend or break something. If you are not sure take the shock completely out to be safe, but keep your speed low either way. Without your shock or without it properly mounted if you have to make an evasive maneuver you may be surprised by the way the Jeep handles.

Take care!

Agreed, just take the shock off completely before you break something that might need to be welded back on. Just be careful on the roads.

Give the guy a break...He said it was installed (I take that to mean it was not done by him) and he posted to get help not get lambasted.

To the OP...

Take the shock completely off. Drive carefully to the shop and have it re-installed. Obviously while you are there have them re-torque the other suspension bolts. (w/out the shock you will experience a "bouncy" ride on that corner.

Good Luck!

If you have the stock bolt just use that. Although I don't like the approach Boss took he is kinda right. You are supposed to inspect the lift occasionally to make sure everything is tight. I don't tear anything down but I get under it and make sure nothing feels loose.

Torque wrences and locktite are your freinds.

Shock bushings are one of the more common error areas, as too tight, and you deform the bushing, too loose, and it comes off.

All tightened bushing areas are prone to this....and, as mentioned, on ANY maintenance, even lug nuts for a tire rotation....its a good idea to use a torque wrench if you want piece of mind....AND to re-check later on down the road, to see if its still properly fastened, etc.

Skid plate bolts, sliders, you name it, all get a lot of vibration and so forth, and can come loose. If just a good idea to become familiar with your rig, and its maintenance needs.

For example....the shop will re-tighten the shock, and, hopefully ALL of the connections, to spec.....that means it needs to be checked AGAIN after more miles, and every so often after that, as things work themselves loose ove time, etc....and, the shop might not be available form what ever trail you next find yourself with a part that fell off, etc.
