Default help me pick shocks

looking to upgrade from my stock X shocks..i've got a 2.5" BB from TF..

i love the OMEs but they're about 85 bucks each(ouch). are they really worth the money?

there are several twin tube shocks out there--the procomp es9000 & rancho RS5000 are almost half the price of the OME..these are both Nitro/gas charged--that's good right? but they're twin tube.

or should i just buck up and spend the money on the OMEs?

i wheel about 6 times a year, but my jeep is my DD(about 70 miles round trip to get to work) so i do want something that will give me a good ride..

I had the OME shocks for with my OME springs and the combination was noticeably better than stock. IMO. You should receive similar results with the TeraFlex springs.

I am running Edelbrock IAS and they are great riding shocks for a daily driver.

Does anyone know offhand if the OME also work with non lifted?

Procomp 9000 and Rancho 5000, are a hydro shock. IMO I always recommend getting a Gas shock for a coil spring vehicle. OME, Bilstein, Procomp MX6, RS9000, will all be superior to a hydro shock.

I agree with Planman. A decent hydro shock would probably suit your needs. I have heard great things about the Rusty's hydro shocks, but Skyjacker, Superlift, etc. will do.

Now, if you want a better than stock ride, reliability, and control, go OME. I have had 3 sets of them on Jeeps now and would never hesitate to spend the $85+ each on them, (and I'm a cheap bastard!).

Spend the $350 now, or spend $160, then $350 to upgrade later, it's really up to you.

Major brands all offer several types of shocks, so make sure you pick a specific shock not just a brand.

I haven't used the OME, but the I am running Bilstein 5100s and they are excellent. If you do a search on them I think you will find they are very well liked by owners, but are probably as pricey as the OMEs.

In the past I used several models of Rancho shocks and IMO the ride was not as good as the Bilsteins, but I ride mostly long trails and I never felt any fading on these shocks which was the main reason I bought several sets.

What about mono vs twin tube?
Also, the OMEs I saw had a black upper boot on them. Thought I saw all yellow models. It was called a rock guard? can I take the black boot off of them and leave the piston?

I'm running bilsteins in the front and the rancho rs5000's in the rear. Changed the rears cause my bilsteins were too short. Was pleasently surprised, they ride really well.
