Default Help! My rubicon locker is dead.

I Just got back from Moab and my Rear Locker is toast! I need to figure out what to do? I have an 08' Rubi and after 5 years and many hard off-road miles the Locker will no longer engage. plus I have a really bad Wheel baring seal leak! I pulled the diff cover and the locker is just no good anymore the teeth are no more. I believe the shaft is bent. My question is what do I do now? I'm done with the 44. I run 37's and wheel the jeep all the time. I have the lifetime power train warranty, but don't think they will cover it. should I replace the locker and shaft? Is there a good upgrade for the Rubi 44 or should I replace the axle? What axle should I get? What locker should I get? Can I use the factory switch to engage? I tried looking for an existing thread so if you know of one please share. Your help will save me as this is also my daily driver and money is a concern as I now I have a baby on the way and don't want to waste money on junk. I just want to make sure I am putting the money into something that will improve the jeep not just band-aid the Problem. I do have a work truck to use in the short term, but cant rely on all the time.

Any of the 60's would probably work out better for you.

If you choose to keep the stock 44, your options are a new factory locker($1400ish), a 35sp ARB which will also need 35sp shafts ($1400ish + compressor), or an Ox ($1000+, depending on actuation type). Since it sounds like you need new shafts also, I'd go for the arb.

If money is a concern see if they will replace your locker? Then save for a D60 for the future.

Thanks for the input. I was going to talk to the dealer ship tomorrow. If they will replace I plan on doing that. I was looking on line and see there are a lot of options for dana 60's. also locker options are a question. which locker do I choose and how do I hook it up? What about 9" axle options?

I went through the same thing when I had my camaro D60 or 9inch the D60 was a direct swap and took less horsepower to turn thats why I went with it.

If you go with a 60 you have a much better selection of lockers. This is a decent overview that the folks at dynatrac put together, and there are plenty of threads on the various options to search through.

Project-JK.com - Jeep JK Wrangler Resource » Dynatrac Presents - Lockers 101

If you choose a locker with electric activiation, you just run the wires and hook it into the switch. If you choose air, you run the air lines to a compressor and the electric lines to the switch. If you choose cable, you run the cables and put the actuator where ever you want it. (probably beside the shifter?)

Detroit Truetrac, Detroit Locker, and ARB Locker would be my suggestions for each catagory.

Thats something to think about, with the crap horse power of the 3.8. Why would the D60 take less HP to turn?

Thanks for the input with so many options like dynatrac, currie, teraflex, and G2. Dana 60 or 9 inch its hard to decide what the best option. I am concerned about ground clearance which is what I like about the 44 and the 9 inch, but maybe 60 is the best.
