Angry HELP NEEDED - Axle Build Problem

Everyone,

I need your help.
I took my '08 Sahara in to the main dealer here in Riyadh to have Superior 4.88 R&P's, ARB Lockers and Diff Covers installed in the front and rear axles.
I purchased all the parts from Quadratec including R&P install kits, no problem so far but the kits did not include pinion bearings.
However that was over 3 weeks ago, the dealer after dismantling the rear axle told me they needed a 'tool' to set the shims for the arb carrier.
This tool is not available in the Mopar supply chain (Kuwait, Germany and the US) and will need to be manufactured by their tool supplier, "Miller Tools",
which will take another 3-4 weeks from now.

Can anyone on here tell me the truth and explain what the process is and exactly what 'special tools' are required to set up a D44 and a D30 for ARB's and new R&P's??

Thanks in Advance,

Roger

they are probably talking about a pinion depth checker. This tool will allow them to figure out how many shims they will need. It's available thru summit racing and other speed shops.

If your JK is low milaege then you can get away with reusing your old bearings so that shouldn't be a show stopper.

Now I'm not an expert by any stretch, so take that for what its worth. There are two sets of shims, 1, the pinion shims move the pinion in and out and, 2, the carrier shims move the carrier left and right. To remove the pinion bearing and reuse it, you'll (they'll) need a bearing splitter tool like an OTC 1123 to press the bearing off of the pinion without damaging it.

The carrier shims can be installed without special tools but a case spreader really makes this job much easier.

To find out where your dealer is stuck, ask him for the old pinion. If they give you the old pinion without the bearing then they managed to get it off (without damage who knows).

As far as 'setting' shims for the carrier, I don't know, as the shims for the carrier are outside the bearing as opposed to the pinion which has them underneath the bearing. The only thing that makes sense is a case spreader, but again, alot of peolpe do this job without one.
