Help needed please - backup camera won't work with Alpine X009 head unit

PO, had an Alpine head unit X009-WRA installed with back up camera, I'm assuming it's got all the idatalink/maestro module in it bc steering buttons work, head unit allows changing of settings for maestro module.
Well old Alpine camera took a shit and wires all split/broke right at the end of the mini 4 pin connector where camera connects to the rest of the harness at rear gate hinge.
I found a good reviewed China camera with mini 4 pin connector but cannot get it to display image / work on Alpine. I figured it would just plug in and work bc same connector. I've tried activating camera through jscan, and changing every single setting in this garbage head unit but nothing's working.
Reviews on the Amazon camera said it worked with their Alpine head unit but it was a different probably newer model. My head unit says 2014 in the about.
Searched the manual for anything that would explain how to get it to work but no luck. Searched forums/Google for any answers but again no luck.
Just loosing my patience at this point and becoming frustrated. So if anyone could please lend some help/wisdom I would greatly appreciate it.
