Default help with offsets for 17" wheels - 35x12.5x17 tires. 2008 Sahara Unlimited

I have a 4 inch lift on my Jeep. it is a manual (not that i think it matters).

I would like the tires to stick out of my stock fenders by maybe 1.5 iinches. I have seen several with this setup but have no clue what the offsets are of the wheels. Ideally I am getting black (or flat black) wheels with the K2 (BF goodrich mud terrains).

thanks for the help.

kind of like this amount of sticking out... just enough but not ghetto or enough to get pulled over (PA rules say no sticking out)...

I like this jeep but i do NOT want my tires way in like this. I think I need a lower offset number to move the tires out..??? what is that number though???

new rims or spidertrax spacers.

By the way, I used to live in Mechanicsburg back in '66 in a area called Marble heights (Navy). Interesting place.

factory back spacing is 6.25" and the less you have, the more your tires will stick out. typically, 4.5" of backspacing, is what you'd want just to help prevent rubbing with bigger tires but, if you want to go out even more, 3.75" or less is what you'd want.

OK, I have an example, I wanna keep the factory rubi wheels when i do my lift ( AEV 3.5) and add spidertrax 1.25 spacers. So I'd be left with 5" backspacing right? Think that'll be enough?

correct but, depending on how wide of a tire you plan on running, no, that will not be enough to prevent rubbing at a full turn.

i should clarify that not all tires are made the same and none measure up to what is listed on the sidewalls. some are wider and some are narrower some are taller and some are shorter. depending on what you get, 5" of back spacing may still give you tire rub at a full turn - maybe not. also, if you really do go with 1.25" spacers, you need to remember to grind your factory wheel studs as i have seen many cases where they are too long and prevent the flush installation of your wheels - this has resulted in spacer failure.

Excellent tip, didn't know. Thank you, Ill check to make sure they are flush when i get there. Yeah trying to save some cash by not getting five wheels now, maybe with the next set of tires I will. Thank you.
