If you are worried about sand, why not buy shock boots. They are cheap and easy to install.

A boot will not help you if you rub a rock.

Just ordered that lift and in talking to the tech and looking at the instructions on their website, the rear shock shafts are mounted up, the front down...meaning the thicker part of the shock in the rear is on the bottom, with the shaft pointing up...that's IF I read and/or understood things correctly...

How'd the installation go?? I'm doing mine next weekend, any issues or pointers you can give??

Isatallation was a piece of cake, honestly, this was my first lift, and although im a hands on guy, anybody could do this in about 5 hours

I just went out, took the rear wheel off and got underneath to have a look, the way I have mounted them, with housing up and shaft down, is the correct way. It has to be this way, due to the way the shock is constructed, it cannot be bolted on any other way.

There is a T piece on the shock which mounts to the body, as illustrated below:

Therefore with the shocks arriving in the box setup in this way, it has to be correct, although it would have made sense having the shaft tuucked away underneath the body for protection.
