Default Help with steering wheel centering

after installing the ome hd lift on my 2dr, the steering wheel was slightly off center. I have installed the jks front adjustable track bar... now the steering wheel is further off. Have I done something wrong? shouldn't of the steering wheel recentered itself with the installation of the adjustable track bar?

You need to adjust it.

Thanks for the quick reply. Whaen you say adjust it... do you mean re adjust the track bar? Or do you mean adjust the steering on the drag link? I would think doing the adjustable track bar would have brought the steering wheel closer to center... not further away. That makes me feel like I have possibly done something wrong on the adjustment. Why did the steering wheel go further off center?

Thanks again for the help.

I would center the body using the track bar instructions first then use the re-center your steering wheel instructions last.

Do you think the jks track bar adjustment is off? I will double check the measurements. I have not yet adjusted the steering ... it is in original set up. The only thing I have done is put the adjustable track bar in. for the front I adjusted it out 3/16th of an inch. I cant figure out why the sterring went further off center.

If you have an adjustable track bar and haven't touched the drag link adjuster yet, I would tune with the track bar and only then, if necessary, tune with the drag link. If I 'm thinking about it correctly, if you adjust with only your track bar without touching your drag link, if you can get your steering wheel centered once again, the track of your wheels should be centered dead even under your body...kind of like you took care of two adjustments at once.

I understand what you are asking, but I'm not sure of why it's doing what you are describing either...if you raise your vehicle (like you have done) your axles should have shifted toward the drivers side when your Jeep is sitting on the ground. If you have lengthened the track bar from stock, that should have taken care of the problem. Did you make sure to take/make precise measurements of both your stock and your new set up? Did you take your Jeep for a spin after installing the new track bar? Sometimes, the position of the steering wheel can be very deceiving in that it may look ok just after adjustment, but once you actually drive it the position settles into somewhere other than you had thought before.

Hope this helps.

Is your trackbar tight. A loose bolt will cause play and in turn cause steering to have play in it. I'm thinking the bolts should be around 125ft..lbs of torque.
If everything is tight, check your measurements on each side of the vehicle and adjust your trackbar as necessary. Then loosen the two bolts on the draglink and turn the turnbuckle whichever direction it takes to move the steering wheel to center. That should be all there is to it. Of course, retighten the bolts when done. You might have to test drive it several times to get it just perfect.

I ahvent touched the drag link? Just adjusting the jks track bar per the write up. Currently the measurements are with a 16th on each side. Not sure what length each turn is on the adjustable track bar. Seems like it would be a 16th or so. Is being within a 16th on each side precise enough?

Must not be my day. Didn't get the axle to center. so... I have put the original stock track bar back on and will try again another time. My measurements must have been off. Thanks for the input... wished some of you lived closer. Be worth pizza and beers to have someone who has done it before assist.
