Default Help with tires decision.

I know this has probably been covered before, but I'm not having luck with a search. I am FINALLY getting to work on my '07 Rescue Green Sahara Unlimited. I'm doing a 2.5 inch lift and want to move to 33's an my stock 18 inch rims. My dilemma is deciding on tires. My other Jeeps have never been daily drivers like my Unlimited, so dedicated off road tires were fine.

i'm trying to get some input on a good compromise tire. i want good performance in sand (I'm in Destin Florida area) and mud, no rock crawling here. But I also want good road performance, not too loud, and decent tread life. Tough looks are nice also.I've been looking at Duratrac's, Terra Grapplers and the like. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!!! Or a link to any relevant threads...

BTW, after the mechanical upgrades, I've got enough CARC 383 left from another project to make the military look match my '43 MB.

Any of the more aggressive A/T's would work, but I'd suggest basing your final opinion on the Load Range. Stay away from E's - choose a C if you can find one in your selected size, or a D if you can't find a C.

I had 295/75/16 Terra Grapplers for a while. Great tire for highway, trail and light snow, good on ice, clogged up a bit in heavy snow. Didn't try them in mud or sand. Paid 143 each for them, compared to 190 for BFG AT's - great tire for the money. (btw, ran bfg at's and procomp at's on an old truck. I'd run the terra's before paying the mark-up for either of those again ...)

I vote for Duratracs, excellent on and off road manners, they clean themselves out very well, aren't noisy at all on the road. I've only got 5000 km's on mine but thus far very little wear, I do alot of highway driving and wheel maybe once or twice a month for a cpl of hours. There were very thin tiny little lines on the outside tread when I got them new, if I look closely those lines are still visible. These tires are load range E but the ride is FAR from harsh its about the same as it was when I had the stock 32" Duelers, I honestly dont understand what others are complaining about in regards to these tires. I highly recommend them, best tires i've ever bought.

Thanks! What kind of mileage did you get out of them? Did they wear quickly?

Only got about 6k out of them.

Before re-gearing and moving up to 35" MT's...

But you can expect typical AT mileage from them. When I was researching before buying, I saw reviews of 40k-60k. Guys that rotate and balance regularly getting the higher mileage, guys with big 1 tons that didn't rotate as often, getting less. Just depends.
