Help w/ Stearing Stabilizer
so the other day i experienced a mini death wobble. i got under my jeep and noticed there was oil all over my stearing stabilizer where the chrome shaft goes into the body which leads me to believe it's shot. so i need help with what to by to rectify this problem.
i'm not looking for overkill but don't want to replace it prematurely again. suspension wise my jeep has a teraflex 2.5 coil lift with shocks that netted me about 4" and jks front and rear trac bars. still running 255/75/17 mud terrains.
as time goes and money comes i'm gonna step up to 35" tires or maybe 37's with flat fenders.
so....if u were me.....what would u buy?

I put on a Skyjacker steering stabilizer when mine died with a Woods relocation bracket. It has held up fine. Has a little rust on it from a tough New England winter. Mostly my fault as I scratched it a little installing it. I am going Teraflex on my lift. In hindsight I would have got the Teraflex stabilizer so it all matched, but oh well. I am sure they all work just as well as another. Not like a shock on a lift where there are big differences.
aside from the obvious changing out the stabilizer you should check your front end for loose bolts and even your alignment. Consider the steering stabilizer like a shock, it smooths things out but should last a long time b4 repacement is necessary. Also know that a busted stabilizer could be the result of something else bieng wrong.

the lift was put in 1500-2000 miles ago. had a professional alignment done the same day. when i went in to get the leak dectection pump replaced (i broke it wheeling) they found the jam nut on my front trac bar loose and tightened it. that was my first thought and it is still tight. but the oil bleeding from the SS was obvious so i assume thats the issue. so i figured if the teraflex SS is only $50, and i know i need a new one anyway, that would be a good place to start. but if i'm already gonna be in there what else should i upgrade while i'm at it? within reason.....

After market steering stabilizers will NOT fit properly in the stock location. The tube is too fat and will rub on the bracket, which will wear through and flexes the stabilizer. Under flex on the trail it will bind your steering.
You must get a relocation bracket, and Woods www.jeepswag.com makes a great one, which is what I run. It also gets the stabilizer up and out of the way of the rocks. As for the brand, you choose. I have Skyjacker which works great, but others will too.
Now for the death wobble, search Wayoflife's posts on this. Some great information.
In a nutshell, a steering stabilizer will only mask the DW problem, so the real culprit needs to be fixed.
I have lots of thoughts on the causes of death wobble, but maybe this is another conversation?
Again, in a nutshell, I think that it takes a near perfectly tuned suspension to Not have DW. The window is small to fit different combinations of parts and adjustments into, but if any of them (or certain combinations of them) are outside that window, DW could result. Tire pressure and steering stabilizers will make DW more or less noticible or set it off slower or faster, but will not be the cause or the solution by themselves. Causes can be simple adjustments or a loose bolt up to major component replacements. It may be one thing, or a combination of things (as in my case). It may take a long time to show its face and start all of a sudden because it was masked for a long time untill the second part of the combination wears out.
The point is, there is no magic bullet to the DW problem. That is why everyone has a different answer to what works. ST and tire pressure will help manage it while you work it out, but you need to make sure things are set up properly.
Sorry for the rambling...
