You can get a cheap China 3/8" rachet or rachet set for around $10 at wally world, etc in a pinch.

Follow the advice you guys gave me - bought a cheap ratchet, and a bottle of fluid. Wrenched it out in the parking lot of the hotel... Turns out it's full. Wouldn't take anymore oil than it already had. So my guess is now that it's a very slow leak, maybe some had pooled up before the trip? It sat on level ground last night and didn't leak more than a drop.

its definitely looking like an axle seal leak for sure. highly doubt its brake fluid

id say axle seal too but just to be certain, check your brake fluid reservoir too !

i would expect, if its brake fluid youd have alot more of it slung around - brake fluid is lighter weight and given the pressure applied when breaking it wouldnt take long to empty the reservoir.

gear lube is pungent as hell and its thick.

also consider, if the brk fluids low the pedal will drop and be quite noticeable

Okay, now use your nose. You've opened the diff and know the smell. Get a bit of that stuff at the end of the axles on your fingers and sniff it. If you've over filled your diff sometimes it'll come through the seals. If it doesn't smell like diff fluid, then you really need to get on it because the only other choice is brake fluid.

I believe an Axle seal leak is covered under your Powertrain Warranty. If you're still covered, I'd check first before spending any of your cash.

100% diff fluid. Brake res looks good, and it definately smells like diff.

I feel much better knowing what it is and what the problem is now.
