Default HEMI Choices

I just ordered a 2012 JKU Rubicon and want to do a HEMI conversion from B.O.R.. My question is what engine to go with...???

5.7 VVT is 21,500

6.4 VVT is 26,500

Is the difference between the 6.4 and 5.7 that big of deal on a JKU? I am primarily in sand dunes and want the power. What I don't want to do is spend an extra 5K if I don't need to (more money for other stuff...). I also don't want to have buyers remorse and be unhappy and second guess myself every time I drive the 5.7.

Option C is leave the Pentastar and put some money in the bank...

Plans for 33's or 35's with a LCG PreRunner TeraFlex 3" Life at some point when the stock tires need replacing.

Thoughts???

I'd get your lift and tires and drive for a while first. Honestly, the new motor performs great with 35's (unless you are really looking for a speed demon).

I'd agree with above, but if you do decide to do a swap I'd only do the 6.4 and not mess around. I'm really surprised you didn't buy say an 08 with crap tons of miles on it since you're wanting to do a motor swap. You would have basically the exact same jeep minus some newly remodeled dash pieces since you're pulling the motor. You coulda saved upwards of 20k or so that way for motor upgrades and other toys

I dont know if you want to ditch that motor its pretty good. Unless you can get some good money for it.

That motor I would just supercharge. Even could have got the 2011 to do a swap on, they have everything the 12 does just minus the the stronger motor. But if your still going to do it I would go with bigger of the 2. Good luck on build.

Sounds like the 3.6 might be enough. I would do the pre-runner suspension mods first.

Although if your going to swap anyway, I would use the 5.7 VVT (390 HP I think, plenty) in a used JK, and spend the difference in axle/suspension mods up front. IMO the JK is too heavy and has the wrong suspension for dunes, it was designed for crawling.

I ended up buying a sand rail and trailor for that stuff, because the JK is my daily driver and the dunes are a couple hours away. I can break the rail, haul it home, and fix it for really cheap compared to the JK. Plus it is light, has a 5 point harness and a roll cage

Because having played in the sand a bit with that hemi, I knew eventually I would start getting air time, destroy the suspension (or rolll it), be stranded hours from home and have to drive my wifes boring Tahoe or my Silverado as a DD (yuck).

But then I don't always moderate fun stuff well, a failing age has not cured.

Whatever you do....have a blast!

I would just have a RIPP blower done on the Pentastar. That right there is around 380hp I think? A stock 5.7 Hemi makes 340 to 370hp.

EDIT: It is in testing now, but when it is released... it will be badass.

I just did my 2012 rubicon jku from BOR, 6.4 HEMI . The only downside is the fuel consumption, otherwise its 500hp which is awesome.
