Hi all. I was surfing the web today and found the AEV 6.4l hemi conversion for $6100. Includes everything for a plug and play setup. I'm curious...has anyone done this? Is there any improvement in mileage over the anaemic 3.8l?

This will double engine size and increase weight

The jeep will do everything easier with double displacement but i can assure u that u will NOT save any fuel milage in the process.

There are several threads on hemi gas milage vs 3.8L. None of them did the hemi improve it.

 

It's not at all plug in play either ...

 

I guess I'll wait until a viable diesel conversion then

 

I never drove the 3.8. I was waiting for a better engine.

2012 fixed it w/the 3.6

I have the 3.6, factory 4.11s and an automatic on 35s

Couldn't be happier. it's snappy and I get 17.1 MPG.

I will be interested in the diesel as well; however I'm not a fan of the smell, or higher price tag on the initial purchase...

In any event, the 2016/17 will be interesting.

something about a diesel convertible... just.. smells fishy to me.

 

I am pretty sure that price doesn't include the actual engine. Unless you have one lying around it'll cost ~$2,000 or more. The whole install is pretty involved even for seasoned mechanics. When my 2007 3.8L dies (hopefully no sooner than five years) I will probably do a 5.7 hemi conversion. Unless I'm still in Alaska where they don't do emissions testing so swapping to a diesel isn't a big deal. That is unless they bring back a straight six option. I'd be all over that like snow on polar bear poop.

 

Don't hold your breath on a straight six.

 

The i6 was TOO reliable. They wont be bringin it back.

All in all due to all the added weight on my Jeep the 5.7VVT Hemi has gotten better gas mileage on the highway than the 3.8 and about the same in town but with tons more power. Even better than the supercharger because you have the torque on low end. But if I had to do it over today I would go with a LS1 engine rather than the hemi. Even better gas mileage, takes up less space and weighs less. Runs cooler and a better transmission behind it.
