Default High Output Alernator

do anyone make a high output Alternator for the JK. i think the factory one is 160 amp. i'm looking for a 200 amp. i noticed when i have all of my light force lights on that it puts a heavy strain on the alt.

What is your indication that it is putting a heavy strain on your alternator?

Do you know how many amps it all draws?

What year is your JK? All 07 and 08 have 160 Amps, except for diesel which is 180 Amps. I believe that all gas engines through 2010 are 140 Amps. Don't know about the 2009/2010 diesels.

2008 x 2dr. not power anything. my window sticker says 160amp if i remember right.

it has a higher wine noise when the lights are on. as well as the lights are dimming more when not on the gas, and the RPM's are lower. i cant find what the amp draw is on the Lightforce Stiker 170's are. but i have 6 of them.

The Strikers are 100 Watts. That's still only about 50 amps for 6.

I would guess you have:

1. A bad battery
2. Poor electrical connections
3. A bad alternator

There should be more than enough "umph" in the battery to turn on the lights without the alternator. If you have a bad connection somewhere it might not be feeding the lamps with all of the power you think - check the ground. If the alternator isn't putting out anywhere near its rated output, you'll be straining your battery and the rest of your electrical system.

i can turn all the lights on with out the jeep running and they all come on. when i have the jeep on and i turn the lights on at idle. i here the extra straine on the alt. when i give it gas the lights get brighter. when i let off the gas they dim. is this normal.

Nope - not normal. If you have a functioning system, your alternator will be putting out about 14.4 volts - even at idle. It won't be pumping out 160 amps, but you shouldn't be seeing a big difference in brightness if the charging system is working correctly.

Try disconnecting a light at a time until the problem goes away. If you get to the last light at it is still showing the same problem, I KNOW you have an electrical issue - not an undersized alternator. I still put money on a bad ground.

I would assume you ran through a relay and aren't driving all 50 amps through a switch. Correct assumption?

correct. each set of lights is on a seperate switch and has there own relay. and each set is on there own 40 amp fuse.
