Hinge mounted tire carrier

I have the ACE JK Pro Series Rear Bumper with Tire Carrier and then bought the slant attachment since I run an Offroad Heroes SUT Top.
Ace attaches via a small bar to tailgate so when you open rear the carrier opens too. Nice that I don't have to unhook carrier, open it and then open tailgate. All in one.
Thing will outlast my Jeep. Looks brand new and 3+ years old. Even put a jerry can back there. Just remember to grease it once a year or so... will get tough to operate if not.

There’s many manufacturers you can choose from. Poison spider, metalcloak, or even smiley bilt if you want something a bit cheaper.
I have metalcloak bumpers (no tire carrier) and they’re super strong. I’ve taken some hard hits on rocks with them and they haven’t bent a bit. However, if I were to do it again I’d go with poison spider since they’re a bit higher clearance.
Either way, look online at northridge or quadratec and pick whichever you like. There’s nothing special about a chunk of steel with a hinge for a tire carrier unless you’re looking for something specific to rock crawling due to clearance or other aspects.

In that case I think you’re limited to teraflex, metalcloak, or smittybilt. I’d go with metalcloak here. I’m not a fan of teraflex (I haven’t ever had success with any of their products). Smittybilt I think is ok but their materials are sub par to metalcloak. Both smittybilt and metalcloak have awesome customer service.

Save hundreds of dollars, keep all your rear visibility, lose 150+ lbs of weight and just go with no spare on back....leave it at home. If you go wheeling and feel you need it toss it in the back of the jeep. Carry a good plug kit in the jeep instead. You'll likely never need to use it with those tires.

I have a Teraflex one. It has held up great. I have had zero problems. If you decide to go that route. Call Element offroad. They beat everyone's price when I bought mine. They were great to deal with.

I have been running the Crawler Conceptz hinge mounted tire carrier for several years with a heavy 37" tire and beadlock wheel with zero issues.
CC was bought out by ICON but I believe they still make that carrier. Highly recommended.
