Default Homemade quick-easy style rack?

I've been eyeing the quick and easy style rack for the jks. Clamps onto the sport bars when tops down. Wondering if anyone has made their own setup? I want to try to use some abs pipe and try to clamp it. Seems easy enough but would like it to remain up there with my canoe and not fall off in transit. Even thought I could use a pipe, slit it slightly and use some large hose clamps to secure it. I could just go buy the right rack but wheres the fun in that?

Can't you use a long bolt to anchor it to the bars? Good quality bolts will give it a good grip and the bars already have holes used to clamp the door surrounds.

I thought about something like this but what you do when it rains? At least here in Seattle rain comes anytime. Weather forecast is useless.

I thought about a long bolt also. Problem is if the wind or weight on the rack tweaks the hole/bolt/threads then I may be screwed. I dont want to jeopardize the threads because I would no longer be able to use my soft top surrounds. I may just drill a new hole a couple inches ahead of them though and use those as anchor points?

I built a rack for my surfboard using PVC and preexisting holes in the roll cage. Works pretty well.

At least here in San Diego, I have a little warning when the rain might be coming, though.

I just did the same thing. 5' pvc with bolts through the existing holes for the soft top door surrounds. Worked perfect. Got to the lake, pulled bars, and installed soft top. 10 min and ready to go
