homemade rear bumper
Worked on the bumper for about 10.5 hours today. Both corner gaurds are tacked to the main frame. Welded the spindle shaft to the right corner gaurd. First thing tomorrow I will remove the bumper and finish weld the corners. Next I will start on the carrier. Hopefully by the end of the Sat. most of the fabrication will be complete.
Did not get very far today. Had trouble getting the bearing races into the bearing housing. Broke one race, luckily the local part store had them. Had to dremel the housing until they would fit.
Seems the welding warped the housing more than I expected.

Bumper is coming along. Welds on carrier are about 50% complete. Still need to add a few more braces. Hopefully all will be done in the next few days ( besides paint).
Carrier is almost finished
added 2 braces and sandblasted.

I have some more ideas for the bumper. I was thinking of adding angles going from the base to the bottom corner, kind of hard to explain. I am working with basic tools, so it is difficult to come up with complex shapes. Also worried about adding to much weight. I should have a lot less money in it than a aftermarket unit and it will have more meaning to me.
