To hook, or to thimble...
'Tis whether nobler in the mud to suffer the slings and thimbles of outrageous fortune...OK, I'll stop.
I think I've pretty much decided on every part of my recovery setup - except for what to put on the end of my synth rope. Do you guys find that you prefer hooks, or thimbles? To be honest, I see myself using my winch for everything from tree clearing to vehicle recovery, so I don't know what the best termination would be. I'm also trying to decide between MP Superline and regular 3/8" Amsteel...decisions, decisions.

After many many pulls I've grown to like this method of attachment very much.
So it sounds like there are definitely times when you prefer the hook in use? If I go with a hook, I'm thinking one of those self-locking Crosby beasts.
Don't the syn cables come pre-terminated with a thimble? The one I purchased did so there was no reason to add a second thimble (factor 55) to the thimble that was already there.
If yours happens to be just a loose end then look into the factor55 "splicer". It gives you a thimble without additional hardware and it's a little cheaper than the loaded/ flat links.
You asked specifically about clearing wood. I use a snatch block with my syn line so attaching the line back to the bumper is a simpler setup with the thimble instead of the hook.
Additionally- how do you plan to store your terminated end while not in use? It's not advisable to run the hook against the fairlead nor to pull your line tight at 90* from the fairlead to your recovery point up front........as so many people do.

Oh definitely. When you are in the mud there is nothing worse then fumbling with D rings on your thimble trying to hook up straps. The Warn Epic hook has a stout latch to keep straps on.

Not complaining, but you started a thread on this exact same subject a week ago. Seems a little like trolling.
Regardless, you've gotten the same mixed answers each time. Really comes down to personal preference. I don't think you can go wrong with any of the choices offered by Factor 55. I've been running the ProLink (thimble) for 2 years now and have never thought that I needed or wanted to go back to a hook. Although I'm changing my front bumper setup and will likely switch to a FlatLink E.
