How can 2" be such a big deal????
I'm about as green as my JK (rescue in this case) when it comes to the specifics of modding a jeep, I guess common sense doesn't apply...
Yesterday I was talking to my kid about a guy we both know and his 4door jk, lifted 4 or 6", 35s (or who knows what), rims that cost as much as a Harley, dual shocks, holy crap he probably spent five or 10 grand. My comment - "wow, bet that thing can do some wheeling" (not that there's many places near D/FW to go wheeling to begin with). His response - "That jeep has probably never even seen a dirt road". I was shocked.
So, my 4door JK, JK unltd x or whatever it's called has a big-assed XHD front bumper from rugged ridge, 4" tube thingie, winch, jeeze, must weigh 350 lbs. Common sense tells me the front end it probably sitting a little lower than stock (which seems a little low to begin with, one guy said shouldn't cause the front end to sit much lower - no big deal), but what do I know???
I call a couple places around town for 2" in the front only, one guy wants to sell me a couple fancy hockey pucks for $500 installed "we do it all the time", one guy has to dig around to figure out how he can do it for $350 including $140 alignment. Another guy says "nope, gonna need new shocks, gotta do all 4 corners, may not align without these parts as well, figure a grand". In all cases I'm like "HUH???", sounds like $50 in parts and a couple hours labor.
I guess lifting a jeep a little is not so common, is so common nobody cares what it costs because it'll never go offroad anyways, which ever it is, *never* apply common sense.

I would get a TeraFlex leveling kit (either the spacer or coil depending on your budget) and install it with your son in a few hours at home. There is no need to align or add other shocks with just a leveling kit.
You should call Dave at northridge. He can get you set up with some new springs. And for the record, I have a 2.5 lift and stock shocks and I never had an alignment done. (other than re-centering the steering wheel)

If I were you and just wanted to level my Jeep just use a spacer they come in a variety of thickness and do it yourself. No special tools are really necessary and can be done in a hour or two. About the only thing after the install needed maybe to recenter your steering wheel.
