Default How do I get the front shocks off?

I have tried for over an hour to get that top nut off the front shock post. I can move it with an adjustable wrench. There isn't enough room for a socket (dumb design). There's barely enough room for a wrench. What am I doing wrong? I bought a ratcheting wrench and it doesn't work... Too big to fit.

Depending on the shock, there is either an Allen head or smaller hex head that you have to hold while turning the nut.

weird, Ive never had a problem removing mine. An open end wrench on the top and bottom and they came right off. Maybe some WD40?

X2 on the wd40. Never had a problem with mine except the poorly designed tight fit.

U need to use two wrenches, one to hold the shaft, and the other to loosen the nut.

I think my problem is the adjustable wrench. If I can get a grip on it, it turns without much difficulty. Stock X shocks, replacing with Rubicon takeoffs. I think I'll go buy a dedicated wrench of the proper size. The backs were cake. 30min for both.

16mm adjustable box wrench is the ticket. Make sure you're using the correct side for loosening (there are arrows on mine). Also vice grips on the bottom side of the mount so you don't just keep spinning it around and around.

Lowe's is the only place I could find that has a 16mm by it self for sale. (Tried HD, and about 3 auto parts stores) Hope this helps save you some time.

The reason for lack of certain metric sizes is that some are very close to the sae size. 16mm is almost the same as a 5/8, only about 5 thousandsths of an in difference.

When I took my stockers off it was like I could only loosen 1/8 of a turn at a time, just really hard to get that top wrench in a good spot, took me a good hour on one side. New ones went on in 30 sec as the nut wasn't rusty.
