Default How do you remove shifter knob?

I've got a 2010 JK with a 6 speed manual. I'm trying to remove the shifter knob. I've heard you just pull it OFF, but this knob is not coming off.. Help! Thanks for your time..

I take a crescent wrench and adjust the size to be just a little larger than the shifter shaft. I put a good, thick shop towel at the base of the knob and then give the wrench a good whack with a rubber mallet. It should go flying.

Twist the knob back and fourth a couple times.

Shift into fouth.

Quick pulling motion upward and it pops off.

Constant pulling will not take it off, quick jerks like a slide hammer will.

I have taken many off with just my bare hands, in customer rigs this is the best way of knowing you cant scratch the knob with any tools!

There are youtube videos on it. I watched one and did it the exact same way. Piece of cake.

Is there any other way to do this?!? I was able to pull this thing off with my hands two days ago. Since I put it back on, it won't budge! I've tried each way this thread states.

I was able to remove mine a number of times by wrapping a rag or towel etc around the shaft, placing some channel locks right at the bottom of the knob, not clamped down on the shaft though, hit up on the channel locks with a hammer as close to the knob as possible. Pops off. Works good.

Tried that in a similar way. I'm about to just break it off!
